Today Michael “Iffy” Ignatieff starts his summer bus tour on Parliament Hill, the scene of so much Liberal failure.
Ignatieff says he’ll be touring the country meeting Canadians but all we can realistically hope for is more Liberal grandstanding.
In fact, just last night, seven Liberal Senators followed their elected colleagues and failed to stop the passage of the Conservative Budget Bill. This was a bill Liberals themselves called unacceptable because of things included in the bill, such as: the imposition of HST and GST on financial products, the privatization of overseas mail services, provisions for the sale of Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. (AECL), and the gutting of environmental assessments.
It’s another shameful example of the Liberals saying one thing and then doing another. Canadians understand that they cannot count on the Ignatieff Liberals to stand up for them.
Michael Ignatieff said: “I take my work as a legislator very seriously and I don't want to make mistakes because the government didn't do its job.” (CBC, June 16, 2010).
Iffy leads by example: he was only present for 2 out of 26 budgetary votes this past session, a 7.7% attendance.
With 107 confidence votes supporting Stephen Harper’s policies, and counting, the Liberals just can’t get the job done.
Next time, forget the bus, just show up and vote!
