Since Harper’s election, 194,000 manufacturing jobs have been lost in Ontario.
The Welland area has been hit particularly hard: Statistics Canada reports that the unemployment rate for St. Catharines-Niagara is 9.6 per cent – nearly two percentage points above the Ontario average.
