OTTAWA - New Democrat Canada Post Corporation Critic David Christopherson is calling on the government to stop hiding a Strategic Review report on the future of Canada Post.
“The Minister has had this report since mid-December,” said Christopherson. “This government must stop hiding this information and allow the public to see this document.”
The Conservatives and Liberals attempted to de-regulate parts of Canada Post last year but were blocked by the New Democrats. The Conservatives have since indicated that the national mail service may be on the chopping block as part of their ‘asset review’.
“Canada needs a strong and public postal system,” said New Democrat Leader Jack Layton. “The NDP will continue to oppose any attempts to deregulate or privatize Canada Post” he added.
Today in the House of Commons, Christopherson asked whether the government is afraid of the Strategic Review’s recommendations.
“What's the big fear?” he asked. “The report – or the public reaction?!”
