New Democrat petition on the floods in Pakistan

PETITION TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS IN PARLIAMENT ASSEMBLED

WHEREAS:

1. Floods in Pakistan have devastated 20 million people;
2. Humanitarian organizations estimate long-term need for assistance; and
3. Government’s matching donations program will come to an end on September 12 just as Canadians are becoming aware of the scope of the crisis and making contributions;

THEREFORE, the undersigned citizens and residents call upon the Government of Canada to extend the matching program as an incentive for greater public donations and increase Canada’s contribution to humanitarian and reconstruction efforts through established bilateral and multilateral channels.
