Who speaks for the government?

With the Minister of Employment saying one thing and an unnamed federal official saying another, it seems the Conservatives are in a disorganized panic and scrambling for a plan.

“It’s bad enough that the Conservatives seem to be contradicting each other,” said NDP Finance critic Nathan Cullen (Skeena – Bulkley Valley). “Even worse is that they’re debating two bad choices: deeper cuts to services Canadians rely on or spending the contingency fund and leaving no money for unexpected events like flooding.”

Just two days ago Jason Kenney said that to balance the budget the Conservatives would cut spending rather than use a contingency fund. However, a finance official has now said that there are no budget cuts in the works.

“A better idea is for the Conservatives to scrap their unfair income splitting scheme that only helps a wealthy few and leaves middle class families further behind,” said NDP Employment and Social Development critic Jinny Sims (Newton – North Delta).
