Voting opens for NDP leadership race

Historic number of New Democrats to begin casting their votes

The election for the leader of the Official Opposition is now open. Voting packages are now being received by members in the mail and at 2:00pm this afternoon New Democrats across the country are able to start casting their ballots online.

“This is a very exciting time for our party,” said National Director Chantal Vallerand. “Having so many people engaged in this race and participating in this democratic process shows a bright future for the NDP.”

The number of members able to cast their votes is now at over 131,000. The final electoral roll is higher than the numbers previously reported by the NDP last week due to a high volume of processing BC memberships and Quebec memberships which now stand at nearly 14,000.
