On Friday, the Department of Finance released its annual Fiscal Reference Tables. This tracks the Federal and Provincial fiscal balances back to 1980.
Once again, the NDP comes out on top with a 46.3% record of balancing the budget, with the Conservatives trailing at 40.4% and the Liberals with 25.7%.
The report also notes that the Conservatives have a federal deficit of $26.2 billion, which is $1.3 billion more than projected in March’s Budget. Jim Flaherty is still on track for his fifth deficit budget in a row for this fiscal year.
