Under attack, StatsCan’s revised numbers show growth of precarious work

Admission of a significant error in Statistics Canada’s July jobs report highlights the cost of Conservative cuts to the agency.

“Statistics Canada provides information that is indispensable to Canadian industry, yet Conservative cuts are hurting Statistics Canada’s ability to provide reliable data,” said NDP Industry critic Peggy Nash (Parkdale–High Park).

The revised Labour Force Survey released today shows 18,000 full-time jobs lost. Instead of quality, full-time jobs, Canadians have to rely more than ever on part-time, seasonal and precarious work.

“These revised numbers highlight how tenuous the work is, for Canadians who do find a job” said Nash. “Unlike the Conservatives, New Democrats will build a sustainable economy by creating quality, full-time jobs”.
