Tom Mulcair wins Munk debate

Tonight, NDP Leader Tom Mulcair was Prime Ministerial as he presented his concrete plan to repair Canada’s reputation on the world stage.

Here are a few of his highlight from tonight’s debate:

“The Canadian value of fighting harder for peace than for war is something I will bring to my tenure as Prime Minister.”

“Last time the Liberals were in power, we went from number one in peacekeeping in the world to number 32. Now under Mr. Harper, we're at 68. We know that Canadians want us to do a lot better, and we will.”

“There is a real winter between Syria and Iraq; there are children who froze to death. I simply cannot accept that. We can help, and we can do more.”

“It's important for Canadians to remember when we've gotten it wrong in the past and why we have to learn from those experiences.”

“Bill C-51 is a real threat to our rights and freedoms. Once again, these are the false choices of Mr. Harper. Do you want security or freedom? The same way when he says do you want a good economy or protection for the environment? It's not a matter of choosing between one and the other. Both can be dealt with.”

“You have to have the courage of your convictions.”

After years of Liberal and Conservative failures on everything from climate change to foreign aid, Canadians can count on Tom Mulcair and the NDP to rebuild Canada’s international reputation.
