Tom Mulcair wins leaders’ debate on the economy

NDP Leader Tom Mulcair won tonight’s Globe and Mail leaders’ debate on the economy. While demonstrating his experience and leadership, Mulcair laid out his concrete plan for creating jobs, protecting the environment and investing in the middle-class.

“After 150 years of being told that we have no choice, that when we're tired of the Liberal sponsorship scandal we have to alternate back to the Conservatives,” said Mulcair. “For the first time in our history there is another choice.”

Mulcair pointed out Stephen Harper’s failed job record and Justin Trudeau’s short-sighted promises.

“We have a government that's taken a rip and ship approach to sending our resources as fast as they can to other places,” said Mulcair. “We've got to keep the jobs here.”

Pointing out Justin Trudeau’s inconsitent positions on everything from C-51 to budget deficits, Mulcair said, “When your advisor tells you one thing and another and they're contradictory, pick one. You just can't say them both.”

Tom Mulcair showed his focus on growing the economy and building a stronger middle class and continued to highlight his balanced plan for long-term, sustainable and stable investment.

“We know that the only way to bring in something as important as quality affordable childcare across Canada is to build it on a solid foundation, and that means balanced budgets,” said Mulcair. “I believe it is possible to build a more generous and prosperous Canada.”
