Tom Mulcair champions NDP plan for strong energy sector and a clean environment

Tom Mulcair is the only leader with a proven record to back up his commitment of growing Canada’s energy economy, while protecting the environment.

“We need to understand we have to develop our resources responsibly and sustainably, which is exactly what I did when I was Environment Minister,” said Mulcair during tonight’s leaders’ debate on the economy. “The Liberals signed Kyoto with no plan. They admitted they had no plan to respect it. That's why they went on to have one of the worst records in the world for greenhouse gas production. Shamefully, Stephen Harper made Canada the only country in the world to withdraw from the Kyoto Protocol.”

Tom Mulcair’s plan will see Canada finally tackle climate change – to protect our environment for generations. An NDP government will pass and enforce strong sustainable development legislation and make polluters pay for the pollution they cause. Tom Mulcair’s plan will focus on getting our resources safely to market, while seizing the economic opportunities in developing renewable resources.
