Statement by Tom Mulcair for Franco-Ontarian day
“Today, on the fifth anniversary of Franco-Ontarian Day and the fortieth anniversary of the Franco-Ontarian flag, let us all celebrate four hundred years of French culture and proud heritage in Ontario.
Nearly half a million Ontarians have French as a mother tongue. Generation after generation, these Canadians have built communities, welcomed new immigrants from French-speaking counties and nurtured an evolving and dynamic identity that enriches our national fabric.
Franco-Ontarians enjoy this day to celebrate their language, their heritage and their great Franco-Ontarian flag. With celebrations happening throughout Ontario, Franco-Ontarians dress proudly in green and white to mark this festive occasion.
On behalf of New Democrats, I wish all Franco-Ontarians a great day of festivities and look forward to their continued contribution to our national conversation, achievements and progress.”
