Statement by Tom Mulcair on the 80th Anniversary of the Holodomor

On behalf of Canada’s New Democrats, I extend heartfelt condolences to everyone gathered to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Holodomor in Ukraine.

New Democrats stand with Canadians of Ukrainian descent and people around the world to honour the memories of the millions of innocent women, men and children who died of starvation in the horrific famine between 1932 and 1933. We condemn this grave crime against humanity and the policies that brought this tragedy to bear.

This sad anniversary serves as an important reminder that we must remain vigilant to ensure we prevent similar crimes from being visited on others.
