Statement from Québec MP Annick Papillon on the decision to keep the Québec Search and Rescue Centre open

“After more than two years of pressuring the Conservative government to listen to reason, the NDP welcomes the decision to keep the Quebec Search and Rescue Centre open. This closure would have put the safety of francophone boaters at risk. This is good news for Quebec and for all those who use the river and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The NDP believes government decisions must be dictated by public interest and safety, not dogmatism. It took a long time for the Conservatives to reason, but thanks to the hard work of so many Quebecers, the Centre will remain open and boaters will continue to have access to search and rescue services in their own language.”
