Statement by the Official Opposition on World Religion Day

Official Opposition Human Rights critic Wayne Marston (Hamilton East – Stoney Creek) made the following statement on World Religion Day:

“On this World Religion Day, New Democrats join those who are fighting to eliminate religious intolerance and promote the freedom of religion or belief for all.

World Religion Day was created in 1950 by the Bahá'ís to “foster the establishment of interfaith understanding and harmony by emphasizing the common denominators underlying all religions.”

The NDP believes that encouraging religious tolerance and promoting religious freedom throughout the world is essential and is determined to fight against hate, discrimination and intolerance.

The NDP recognizes the freedom of religion as a fundamental human right.”
