Statement by Official Opposition Multiculturalism critic Jinny Sims on the occasion of Vaisakhi

Vahiguru Ji Ka Khalsa! Vahiguru Ji Ki Fateh!

On behalf of Canada’s New Democrats it gives me great pleasure to wish Canadians of Sikh ancestry a very happy Vaisakhi which commemorates the establishment of the Khalsa.

From the early 1900s when the Sikhs helped lay the Canada Pacific Railway and served in WWI to the present day when they are deeply involved in all aspects of civil life, Canadians of Sikh ancestry have been enriching this country. The principles of Kirt Karna – working hard; Vand Shukna – sharing with others; Naam Japna – having faith; and Seva – community, are values that can inspire New Democrats and Canadians.
