Statement from Official Opposition Leader Tom Mulcair on Orthodox Easter

It is my pleasure to extend best wishes to all Canadians celebrating Orthodox Easter.

For Orthodox Christians, this is one of the most important holy days as it marks Jesus Christ’s resurrection three days after he was crucified.

According to tradition, the Virgin Mary dyed eggs red to celebrate Christ’s resurrection and to celebrate life. The faithful honour tradition, by displaying red hard-boiled eggs and serving roasted lamb to family and friends.

Canadians of all faiths can share in the ideas of rebirth, renewal and hope for the possibilities that lay before us.
