Statement from Official Opposition Leader Tom Mulcair on the election of His Holiness Pope Francis I
On behalf of Canada’s New Democrats, I join Catholics in Canada and around the world in congratulating His Holiness Pope Francis I on becoming the head of the Vatican and the 266th leader of the Catholic Church.
Throughout history, pontiffs have provided spiritual leadership and guidance, building bridges of faith among believers around the world. I wish Pope Francis all the best in this very important role.
