Statement by Official Opposition Finance critic Peggy Nash on the appointment of Stephen Poloz as Bank of Canada governor

On behalf of Canada’s New Democrats, I would like to congratulate Stephen Poloz on being selected as the new Bank of Canada governor.

While managing Canada’s monetary policy and ensuring the stability of our financial system will be challenging in the face of sluggish economic growth, fiscal contraction, and high household debt, I trust that Stephen Poloz is ready to assume this responsibility.

As Canada emerges from an extended economic downturn and continues to face unique challenges, our economy will require confident and purposeful stewardship.

I wish Stephen Poloz much success in this new role.
