Statement by the Official Opposition on Black History Month

The leader of the Official Opposition, Tom Mulcair, made the following statement on Black History Month:

“The contribution of African and Caribbean Canadians to the building of Canada goes back to the very beginnings of the country’s colonization, but their role is often missing from our history books and their sacrifices not well known or recognized.

Black History Month is a perfect opportunity for Canadians to learn more about their rich heritage and their contribution to Canada.

Although progress has been made in the fight against prejudice, discrimination and inequality, we will continue our efforts to build a fairer country for all.
