Statement by the Official Opposition on Anti-Bullying Day

Official Opposition Public Safety and LGBT critic Randall Garrison (Esquimalt–Juan de Fuca) made the following statement on Anti-Bullying Day:

“Today, New Democrats and I are proud to wear pink for Anti-Bullying Day—a gesture of solidarity with victims of bullying.

Bullying is far from harmless and is a serious social problem. We have unfortunately seen the real and even fatal consequences of bullying in recent years.

We all have a role to play in preventing bullying. It must not be tolerated under any circumstances. We must give hope to those who are still too often victims for reasons often linked to homophobia, racism or sexism.

We believe that the federal government has a role to play in developing solutions to this nationwide problem and will continue to work hard to adopt a national anti-bullying strategy.”
