Statement by NDP on TPP and prescription drug prices

NDP Candidate Erin Selby (Saint Boniface—Saint Vital) made the following statement:

“NDP Leader Tom Mulcair has been clear that an NDP government would not be bound by Stephen Harper’s Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

Stephen Harper’s secretive TPP negotiations include possible changes to patent-law that would raise the price of prescription drugs for consumers, and the Liberal Party says it will support Mr. Harper.

Canadian families should never have to worry that their parents who have worked so hard to build this country will fall through the cracks as they age.

Only Tom Mulcair and the NDP have put forward an ambitious plan to reduce the cost of prescription drugs for families with universal comprehensive public drug coverage for all Canadians, regardless of where they live or where they work.

And only Tom Mulcair has put the needs of Canadians first on the TPP.”
