Statement by NDP Sports Critic Matthew Dubé on Georges St-Pierre's seventh UFC Title defence

I would like to congratulate fellow Quebecer Georges St-Pierre on an amazing welterweight championship win on home turf in Montreal Saturday night.

After dealing with major surgery and much time away from the octagon, I have to commend his endurance, strength and fortitude to make such an incredible comeback.

Defending your title is tough, but to make it to your seventh defence is unheard of in UFC history. It's such an inspiration to other MMA fighters in Canada, indeed all athletes across this country to have this historical win to aspire to.

On behalf of New Democrats, I'd like to pass on my warmest congratulations on this historic championship title defense.
