Statement by the NDP on Lunar New Year

Official Opposition Leader Tom Mulcair made the following statement on Lunar New Year:

“I would like to extend my best wishes to all Canadians celebrating the Lunar New Year — one of the most important traditional holidays in Asia.

“One of Canada’s greatest strengths is our multiculturalism and diversity. I understand that Lunar New Year is a time to recognize the importance of family.

“Unfortunately, many Canadians are separated from their family members because of long wait times for immigration. New Democrats will continue to fight hard to make family reunification a priority.

“All New Democrats join me in wishing those celebrating Lunar New Year good health and prosperity in the Year of the Ram.”
