Statement by the NDP leader on the 98th anniversary of the battle of Vimy Ridge

Official Opposition leader Tom Mulcair made the following statement on the anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge:

“Today, we celebrate the 98th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, a profound moment in Canadian history when the bravery of Canadians led to the victory of the Allied forces.

“In April 1917, for the first time, all four divisions of the Canadian Expeditionary Force fought together to take control of Vimy Ridge.

“We pay tribute to our Canadian soldiers who fought to protect peace and freedom in a battle that left 3,600 soldiers killed and 7,000 wounded.

“Our thoughts are also with soldiers currently deployed overseas who are serving our country with devotion and courage.”
