Statement from the NDP on Labour Day

While Canadians enjoy the final days of summer this Labour Day Weekend, the NDP would like to mark Labour Day by highlighting some of the important achievements of Canada’s labour movement.

It is thanks to the dedication of courageous workers and unionists that we are now able to work in safer conditions and enjoy other hard fought achievements like pension plans, social benefits and human rights protections in the workplace.

With workers’ rights increasingly at risk and the Conservative government making repeated attempts to weaken unions, today’s labour movement must once again defend the hard won achievements of workers.

People know they can count on the NDP to defend their rights, propose ideas to create quality jobs and fight for better pensions and retirement security.
