Statement by NDP Finance Critic Peggy Nash on the appointment of Mark Carney to the Bank of England

On behalf of New Democrats I would like to congratulate Mark Carney on being selected the governor of the Bank of England.

Throughout his tenure as Bank of Canada governor Mr. Carney’s leadership helped maintain this country’s economic standing.

His sensible decision-making early in the financial crisis helped Canada navigate this period of fiscal turmoil. In particular, Mr. Carney’s decision to quickly add liquidity to the market and his commitment to keeping interest rates low were significant factors in Canada’s strong recovery from the financial crisis.

We thank Mr. Carney for his years of service to Canada and wish him success in his future role.
