Statement from the NDP on the adoption of a motion on Senate abolition by the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly

New Democrat Democratic and Parliamentary Reform critic Craig Scott (Toronto--Danforth) made the following statement after the adoption of a motion in favour of abolishing the Senate by the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan:

“The NDP is pleased to see that our historic position is supported by the people of Saskatchewan, after the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan adopted a motion in favor of abolishing the Senate. For us, the solution is clear: the Senate must be abolished. More and more Canadians support this - even Conservatives who believed in Senate reform like Brad Wall, Maxime Bernier and Jim Flaherty now support abolition. We are all tired of this outdated, undemocratic, unaccountable and under investigation institution. While the Liberals and Conservatives continue to defend senators, the NDP will continue to stand up for Canadians.
