Statement by Dennis Bevington on the signing of a devolution agreement between Canada and the Northwest Territories
On behalf of all New Democrats, I applaud the efforts of the Government of the Northwest Territories and Premier Bob McLeod in achieving devolution of management of the NWT’s lands and resources from the federal government.
This achievement is a significant step towards increased autonomy of the territorial government and Northern control over the protection of the NWT’s environment and economic development.”
As part of developing the NDP’s position, I will lead a wide-ranging consultation process with the people of the Northwest Territories.
