It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Nancy Riche in St. John’s this Saturday. My most sincere condolences, and those of all New Democrats, go out to her family today.
I’ve known Nancy for many years. And many of us were personally inspired and touched by Nancy’s dedication to improving the lives of working Canadians, of Canadian women and of the most vulnerable among us.
There is not a New Democrat in Newfoundland and Labrador who did not know Nancy and who did not admire her ever present good-humour and her steely determination to advance the cause at hand.
As past President of the New Democratic Party of Newfoundland and Labrador, as past Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Labour Congress, and as a lifelong advocate and activist in the Canadian women’s movement, Nancy’s tireless work touched the lives of so many Canadians.
She will never be forgotten.
Until the very end, Nancy remained incredibly active in the New Democratic Party. She would have so much liked to see this next provincial election through, and I know that in her spirit, Newfoundland and Labrador New Democrats will do her proud.
