Statement by New Democrat democratic reform critic David Christopherson on the Political Loans Accountability Act
New Democrats believe that ensuring political financing and political loans are as transparent and accountable as possible is a good thing. In fact, New Democrats proposed amendments to the Accountability Act to close loopholes on loans and have supported this legislation in the past.
We can’t continue to see what we’ve seen in the past. 5 years after the fact, Liberal leadership candidates seem to have all but given up on paying back their leadership debts, and that's wrong.
While we still need to study this legislation carefully, we strongly support this effort in principle.
