Statement by NDP Leader, Tom Mulcair, on Quebec’s Fête nationale

On this national holiday, I join Quebecers in celebrating our language, culture, history and collective accomplishments, as well as our pride in belonging to such a unique society. Today, this bond that unites us is at the heart of our celebrations.

This is also an opportunity to pay tribute to Quebec artists, who are so respected for their skills and creativity, and take pride in the fact our voices are heard throughout the world.

I am thinking of our authors, filmmakers, singers, acrobats and artists in so many different fields. I’m also thinking of all Quebecers who, embracing the values of tolerance, justice, equity and peace, have created a society that is respected and admired on all continents.

Let us also remember that francophones from across Canada will be celebrating Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day and that our unifying culture, history and language will be at the heart of these celebrations, from coast to coast to coast.

Let us celebrate what we have accomplished together and roll up our sleeves to better meet the challenges of the future.

Happy Saint-Jean-Baptiste!
