Today, New Democrats are proud to see that improving economic outcomes for First Nations, Inuit and Metis will be a priority in the upcoming budget.
The majority of Conservatives supported the NDP motion, which included provisions to commit to action on treaty implementation and full and meaningful consultation on legislation affecting Aboriginal rights.
Following this encouraging vote, New Democrats urge the government to take this opportunity to put words into action. It is time to start supporting on-reserve schools with funding comparable to provincial schools.
It is time to end the status quo and years of neglect and underfunding of education.
The NDP is proud of our motion and how it helps re-build the nation-to-nation relationship with Aboriginal peoples in Canada.
