Shutting down debate, this time on going to war

In 2006 Stephen Harper promised that deployments of Canadian soldiers would be put to a vote in the House. The caveats he didn’t tell us about were:

1) Only when I feel like it
2) You can only debate as long as I think you should

Conservatives have now shut down debate for another record breaking 79th time this Parliament, once again outdoing Chretien and Mulroney.

What did the Conservatives say in opposition about this sort of stuff?

“We have closure today precisely because there is no deadline and there are no plans. Instead of having deadlines, plans and goals, we must insist on moving forward because the government is simply increasingly embarrassed by the state of the debate and it needs to move on” Stephen Harper, House of Commons, December 9, 2002

Canadians deserve better.
