Rona Ambrose and the abortion debate

On the 25th anniversary of the historic Morgentaler decision on a woman’s right to choose, it seems the Minister responsible for the Status of Women, Rona Ambrose, needs a reminder of the Conservatives’ record.

When asked yesterday about why Conservatives keep trying to reopen this debate, Ambrose replied:

This is an issue that women are not interested in debating.”
–Rona Ambrose, House of Commons January 28th, 2013

While we agree that women in Canada are not interested in re-opening this debate, Ambrose herself is.

The Status of Women Minister was one of 86 Conservatives who voted in favour of a motion last September to study the legal rights of the fetus, and reopen the abortion debate through the back door.

Twenty-five years ago the Supreme Court closed this case, Rona Ambrose and the Conservative government should too.

Together we've shown just how much New Democrats can accomplish.
