REALITY CHECK: Stephen Harper’s Conservatives finding new ways to run away from accountability

In 2013, the Spring sitting ended with a grueling 5 week stretch between Easter and the summer recess.

In 23 sitting days, Stephen Harper showed up only five times – a 22% attendance rate.

Even if you factor in the 2-day G8 summit, plus a travel day home, that’s only 5 days of Question Period out of 20 sitting days.

Even by Harper’s own standards, that’s a poor performance.

In 2012, during the last sitting Mr. Harper attended 7 out of 18 days, or 39% attendance rate.

In 2011, Mr. Harper attended 11 out of the last 14 days of the final sitting before summer, for a 78% attendance rate.

Canadians deserve better than a prime minister who will do almost anything to run away from accountability.
