Reality Check: The saga of Duffy, Wright and the PMO’s secret fund continues

When it comes to what really happened in the PMO we know that Mike Duffy was given a $90,000 cheque by Nigel Wright. And we know that he was given this money to “stay silent on orders of the PMO”. Where there is some confusion, however, is where that money really came from.

Minister Poilievre wants you to believe it was from the Conservative Party Fund,

“The story on CBC yesterday was false. We gave CBC the information to show that it was false. There is no separate fund.”
-House of Commons, June 7, 2013.

The RCMP, however, suggest otherwise. According to reports from Greg Weston and the CBC, the RCMP are looking at Nigel Wright’s sole access to a “special stash of Conservative Party funds”. A secret stash used to pay for partisan activities run out of the Prime Minister’s Office.

While Poilievre might have thought he was pulling the wool over our eyes, the ongoing RCMP investigation suggests no one’s buying it.

Canadians deserve better.
