Reality Check: Part II – more möbius strip logic from Chris Alexander and the Conservatives

This weekend, Conservatives continued their dance of confusion surrounding allegations from CBC that Nigel Wright had control over a secret CPC fund while he was chief of staff to the prime minister.

On Thursday, Conservative MP Chris Alexander confirmed the fund existed.

“The Fund does exist”
– Chris Alexander, CBC Power & Politics, June 6, 2013

On Friday, Pierre Poilievre rose repeatedly in the House of Commons and flatly denied any such fund existed.

“The story upon which he bases his question is false. There is no such fund.”
– Pierre Poilièvre, Hansard, June 7, 2013

On Saturday, Chris Alexander doubled down on his point during a CBC radio interview:

Evan Solomon (Host): Alright, again, I should say Greg Weston sticks by the story that there is a special discretionary fund controlled by the chiefs of staff and that is separate from the Conservative fund.

Chris Alexander (Parliamentary Secretary to Defence Minister): No one's denying that.
– The House, CBC Radio, June 8, 2013

Seeing how Conservatives are again struggling to keep their story straight, it seems covering up for their many concurrent scandals is too much for them.

May we suggest a simpler path: take responsibility, come clean about what you’ve done and embrace transparency!

Canadians deserve better.
