Reality check: Part I - Hamster wheel approach to reducing Red Tape

Today’s red tape reduction announcement has an interesting way to “reduce” something: keep it at the same level:

“regulators will be required to remove at least one regulation each time they introduce a new one that imposes administrative burden on business” – Government press release, January 18, 2012

If you are adding one for each one you remove, you’re actually just running in the same spot.

Instead of gimmicks, we need a real plan to help small business and reward job creators – like the practical ideas proposed by New Democrats.

• Reducing the small business tax rate to help drive growth and job creation.
• A Job Creation Tax Credit that would provides up to $4,500 when a business makes a new hire and $1,000 retention bonus after a year.
• End unfair bank and credit card transaction charges that gauge consumers and hurt small businesses.

In contrast, the Conservatives chose to lower the corporate tax rate paid by Canada’s largest most profitable corporations instead of helping small businesses.

When it comes to supporting small business and rewarding job creators, we’ll stack our plan vs. the Conservative plan any day of the week.
