When a government, like the Harper Conservatives, knows the cuts they have implemented are absurd and damaging, they do what they know best – blame the bureaucrats.
And that’s exactly what National Revenue Minister Kerry-Lynne Findlay did on Tuesday when she was questioned about Conservative cuts to the special enforcement unit – the unit that investigates organized crime.
“They made their internal decision”
– National Revenue Minister Kerry-Lynne Findlay, Postmedia News, October 1, 2013
Oh course this is the kind of excuse Canadians have come to expect from Conservatives.
When the Ucluelet communications centre and the Kitsilano Coast Guard station were shuttered local MP James Lunney (Nanaimo-Alberni) blamed bureaucrats too:
“The decisions may have come from bureaucrats in Ottawa”
– Nanaimo News Bulletin, June 15, 2012.
These closures were actually a result of reckless cuts implemented in a Conservative budget that Mr. Lunney himself voted in favour of just an hour earlier.
The embarrassing excuses offered by Minister Findlay is sadly just another example of a Conservative government too afraid to stand up and admit what they are doing – and too afraid to tell Canadians the truth about their reckless budget cuts.
Canadians deserve better.
