Reality Check: Conservatives shut down debate for the 36th time

Having outdone themselves yesterday with two votes to shut down debate, Conservatives are back at it again today, shutting down debate in the House on Bill C-49.

Facing mounting pressure due to their many and multiplying ethical lapses, Conservatives are now ramming bills through faster than ever.

Just look at how Conservative Time Allocation has been ramped up this month:

  • #32. May 2, 2013, Bill C-60, Vote 673
  • #33. May 8, 2013, Bill S-8, Vote 677
  • #34. May 27, 2013, Bill C-48, Vote 696
  • #35. May 27, 2013, Bill C-54, Vote 697
  • #36. May 28, 2013, Bill C-49, Vote 699

Once upon a time, Stephen Harper used to rail against Liberals when they shut down debate.

“We have closure today precisely because there is no deadline and there are no plans. Instead of having deadlines, plans and goals, we must insist on moving forward because the government is simply increasingly embarrassed by the state of the debate and it needs to move on.”
– Stephen Harper, House of Commons, December 9, 2002

Canadians deserve better.
