REALITY CHECK: Another empty gesture from Stephen Harper

Stephen Harper is spending the day in Quebec City for his umpteenth charm offensive.

Despite his Conservatives having scattered millions of dollars in mysterious funds throughout Quebec City, it would be surprising if people there bought it.

Look for Stephen Harper to remain silent on the many files his Conservative government has mismanaged:

• Closure of Quebec’s Maritime Rescue Centre;
• Harmful and destructive employment insurance reform;
• Abolition of tax credits for labour-sponsored funds, which will particularly affect Quebec;
• Closure of numerous regional post offices;
• Centralization of Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec offices.

Rather than trying to please Quebecers with photo ops, the Conservatives should be reversing the policies that are hurting Quebec and the entire country.
