A portrait of Canada's Senate in numbers: Yeas, nays, abstentions and no shows
The Senate allows Senators to vote three ways: Yea, nay or “abstain”.
Since the last election, Senators have “abstained” from voting 87 times. This doesn’t tell the story though. By analysing the voting records, we can see that Senators have actually missed 1328 votes this Parliament.
The category of “abstention” gives the impression that very few Senators miss votes.
