Partisan funding cuts: the NDP calling for an inquiry

The NDP will be sending a letter to Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner today, urging her to launch an inquiry into allegations that funding for the Jean Bosco Centre in Maniwaki was withdrawn after the Conservatives were defeated in the riding at the last federal elections.

A recent tweet from suspended Conservative Senator Patrick Brazeau implied that the Conservatives ditched their campaign promise to renew funding for the Centre, after Conservative Minister and Pontiac MP Lawrence Cannon lost the riding to the NDP in 2011.

“The Conservative government ditched its promise to the people of Maniwaki and turned its back on the Jean Bosco Centre. This is unacceptable and we need some clear answers and some transparency from this government. They have a duty to govern for the greater good – which includes people who didn’t vote for them. This is reprehensible,” said NDP Treasury Board critic Mathieu Ravignat (Pontiac).
