New Democrats Recognize Canadian Armed Forces Day

Jagmeet Singh, leader of Canada's NDP, issued the following statement:

“Everywhere in Canada, and beyond our borders, men and women in uniform prove their dedication and commitment every day by serving in Canadian armed Force operations.

As we do every first Sunday of June, we pay tribute to these military men and women who proudly work for their country; in the air force, in the navy and on the ground. Their courage is only equaled by the courage of their families who must endure their loved-one’s absence as they serve on missions far from home. We recognize their sacrifice and we extend our support to them.

Some 95,000 Canadians currently serve in Regular and Reserve forces. These men and women are protecting our lands, assisting during natural disasters, saving lives, collaborating on humanitarian interventions and working on peacekeeping or combat missions.

Today is also an opportunity to remember our duty to take care of the women and men who return home from their missions abroad, and ensure that veterans are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.

On behalf of New Democrats, I wish to thank all those who are serve in the Canadian Armed Forces every day, and who embody our Canadian values of peace justice and inclusion through their service here, and everywhere around the world.”
