New Democrats condemn terror attack in Pakistan

OTTAWA – NDP Foreign Affairs critic Paul Dewar (Ottawa Centre) and NDP Human Rights critic Wayne Marston (Hamilton East--Stoney Creek) have issued the following statement in reaction to terror attack in Pakistan:

“New Democrats condemn yesterday’s terrorist attack on All Saints Church in Peshawar, Pakistan, and extend our heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families.

“The attack, which targeted worshippers leaving the church after Sunday mass, is believed to be the deadliest ever on Pakistan’s Christian minority. More than 80 people are confirmed to have been killed, with over 140 others wounded.

“We are very concerned by this escalation of violence against religious minorities in Pakistan. We call on the government of Canada to provide all necessary assistance to the Pakistani government in bringing the perpetrators of this attack to justice, and to urge Pakistani authorities to take concrete steps in the coming days to ensure that all citizens are free to practice their faith without fear of harm or discrimination.”
