NDP welcomes RCMP investigation into Veterans Affairs harassment allegations
OTTAWA – NDP Veterans critic Peter Stoffer is pleased by reports that the RCMP is investigating allegations that the Veterans Review and Appeal Board leaked a former member’s personal information.
“Any attempt to dishonour one of our veterans, especially someone who’s supporting other former soldiers, is absolutely deplorable,” said Stoffer. “The minister says he wants to stand up for veterans. Well, he should sit down with Harold Leduc to help solve this case and take corrective action against those responsible. There is nothing stopping the minister from doing so.”
The RCMP is reportedly investigating allegations that Veterans Review and Appeal Board members leaked Harold Leduc’s personal information. This was allegedly done in order to discredit him in retaliation for his strong advocacy work on behalf of other veterans. Although the Human Rights Commission had previously ordered the Veterans Board to pay damages and legal costs, there has been no action by Veterans Affairs Minister Steven Blaney to hold those responsible for the information leak to account.
