NDP urges Canada Post to make equity payments to their employees

After 29 years of proceedings, workers have waited long enough

OTTAWA – New Democrat MPs sent an open letter to Canada Post today urging the corporation to respect the Supreme Court order issued a year ago requiring it to make equity payments to thousands of employees involved in the longest battle of its kind in Canada.

“On behalf of the New Democrat caucus, we ask Canada Post to no longer delay the process and to pay employees the amount owed them as quickly as possible,” reads the letter.

This legal battle which has lasted 29 years is still not over because Canada Post has delayed providing employees the amount owed to them. The corporation is still in dispute with the union representing the employees, the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), over the interest calculation of compensation.

“Canadian workers have waited long enough. Some have long since retired and others have even died before receiving their fair salary,” said Status of Women critic, Niki Ashton (Churchill), signatory to the letter.
