NDP statement on World Aids Day

New Democrat Critic Health Critic, Don Davies, made the following statement:

“On this World AIDS Day, Canada’s New Democrats remain steadfast in our commitment to building a world where no one has to know the isolation, stigmatization and pain brought on by HIV/AIDS.

Unfortunately, while Prime Minister Trudeau rightly insists that Canada should be a world leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS, his government has been quietly denying assistance to HIV/AIDS organizations in Canada – some of whom had been receiving support for decades. This has left many to worry how they’ll find the resources to keep serving their communities.

New Democrats call on the government to restore this funding and expand the Federal Initiative on HIV/AIDS.

Now more than ever, we must provide support and compassion to every single person living with HIV/AIDS. Stigma and discrimination remain major barriers that prevent people from being tested, receiving treatment and feeling fully accepted.

Working together, we can reduce new infections, increase access to care, improve health outcomes, and ultimately, forge a future without HIV/AIDS.”
