NDP statement on supply management

Ruth Ellen Brosseau, NDP candidate for Berthier-Maskinongé made the following statement

“As rumors of Canadian government supply management concessions persist amid ongoing Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations, the NDP joins concerned farmers in calling on Stephen Harper to maintain his commitment to defend family farms and the farming industry by standing up for supply management.

The supply management system is essential to the health of our rural communities and is an important driver of the Canadian economy. It contributes nearly 30 billion dollars to our GDP and creates more than 200,000 jobs, directly and indirectly.

During last night’s debate, Tom Mulcair pressed the Conservative Leader on this issue. But Stephen Harper failed to alleviate concerns.”
